Does anyone here have outdoor cats, that is real mousers - those that actually hunt and kill mice, rats, opussums, squirrels, snakes, and other assorted critters? How do you keep them during the winter months?

When they want to come back in, they will knock. Or if you like, get a pet door installed.

===> I donate $10 a month to Humane society of the United States.

Even a better thing to do is to go to the county animal shelter and adopt a cat or dog.

Millions of them are euthanized every year.

Angel,

Sure, will do.

Sara,

It's a noble suggestion..but, have you owned a dog in the US? It's a big responsibilty, like adopting a child. Unless you have someone to take care of them when you have to leave home, it's not the same to leave them in shelters.

As for cats..have to adjust to the cat's temperament..they own you:)

Maria,

I have "owned" dogs in the United States. Yes it is a lot of responsibility.

If you have a big dog like a German Shepherd, you need a big fenced yard.

For smaller dogs, you can leave them at home for not more than 10 hours. They cannot hold any longer. It will be helpful if you work near home so you can come in during the lunch and let the dog in the yard to relieve himself. Sometimes having friends or neighbors to let the dog out during the day helps.
