what is your father's middle name?
they ask on each browser of each bank
when i was setting all this up
it brought nothing but a warm fuzzy and proud feeling

now all it does is bring flashbacks
of a death bed, of a funeral pyre
and sends me into a traumatic disbelief
was it the same man, my father?

the one lying hooked up to the monitor
with decreasing blood pressure
was the same man who used to
delightedly make me chase and run and
jump up and earn each piece of candy?

the one lying on the pyre, looking peaceful, smiling
the one with cold hands and feet
was the same man who used to talk me out of every tough situation
except this?

It can't be... they can't be the same
these are the two myopic visions
i am not able to coincide into one
please tell me that was just a long nightmare
and i still have a father sleeping warm in his bed
please...

quite deep and unfortunate...for most of us..one could never be fully prepared for this.

PS: I wonder whether experiencing grandparents' departure might mitigate this by mildly conditioning us?
