Senior BJP leader Shatrughan Sinha scolds NaMo for making irresponsible statements
NEW DELHI: After Islamabad and the Congress, BJP MP Shatrughan Sinha, too, has slammed Narendra Modi for accusing the Congress of colluding with Pakistan to defeat the BJP in the Gujarat polls.
"Hon'ble Sir! Just to win elections anyhow, and that too at the fag end of the process, is it a must to come up with & endorse new, unsubstantiated & unbelievable stories everyday against political opponents? Now linking them to Pak High Commissioner & Generals?! Incredible!," tweeted Sinha today, the "sir" being a clear reference to Modi. (All exclamation points are Sinha's.)
Without furnishing proof, Modi yesterday claimed a "secret three-hour meeting" took place recently in (now suspended) Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar's house that was attended by Pakistan's high commissioner, its former foreign minister, former PM Manmohan Singh, and former Vice-President Hamid Ansari.
Sinha further said Modi should "stop communalising the atmosphere & go back to healthy politics & healthy elections". He was likely referring to Modi's recent comments about building a Ram temple in Ayodhya at the site of the demolished Babri Masjid and of accusing Congress leader of having a "Mughlai mindset".
Last week, Modi accused Aiyar of putting out a hit on him while on a visit to Pakistan to ensure peace between India and the neighbouring country.
Pakistan, too, isn't happy with allegations.
"India should stop dragging Pakistan into its electoral debate and win victories on own strength rather than fabricated conspiracies, which are utterly baseless and irresponsible," said a spokesman of Pakistan's foreign ministry today.
The Congress was, of course, outraged.
It said the real colluder with Pakistan is the BJP, whose government gave Pakistani intelligence officials access to the country's top air force base in Pathankot after a terror attack there. It also wondered "who really has Pakistan love" considering the PM dashed off to that country on an unplanned visit, on an event in then PM Nawaz Sharif's family.
