His career is done?

How on earth did he agree to get this neck surgery to fuse his vertebrea? It is most painful and never helps. A google search would have helped him decide it. I cannot help but think what a waste of time this has been. A fusion of C1-C5 in neck causes problems in daily life like hell. And he got this done and was planning to play football with 300 lb heavy weights? What on earth... Oh god. I can only think he was just plain DUMB enough to get this surgery done on him. Or if he depended someone to decided this surgery that decision maker was a first class idiot.
