the newspapers have already started referring to the former army private with the female pronoun and with her chosen female name. just the fact that she wanted to be referred to as a woman is sufficient for the papers. the army is standing firm that it won't budge on helping with the hormone replacement therapy.

someone we know recently went through it the whole hog, hormone replacement right up to eventual surgery. can't imagine what it must be like to live like this. scary.

s/he can live like the way s/he wants to.  no need to spend money for any therapy. he's going to prison and can get his wishes fulfilled as female.

your crude innuendo notwithstanding, the debate is about whether an incarcerated person deserves the right (maybe at her own expense) to undergo a medical procedure that she wants. what if this was heart surgery?

he's in prison. he only deserves life threatening surgeries or treatments like other prisoners. that's all.

nothing more.
