Normally, Rajas and Nawabs keep a somewhat low profile, but this Prince of Arcot seems to be a high flyer.

----

CHENNAI: The Prince of Arcot Mohammed Abdul Ali on Sunday hosted a delegation of 14 ministers, officials and dignitaries of the Malaysian state of Sarawak.
The delegation was led by Sarawak Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud, and Sarawak first lady Ragad Waleed Alkurdi Taib. Speaking at the event, the Prince of Arcot and Abdul Taib Mahmud underlined the good relations between India and Malaysia and called for increased engagement and bilateral ties. Taib’s visit was primarily aimed at visiting universities in Tamil Nadu and Thiruvananthapuram, which offer technical and engineering education, and explore the possibility of exchange of faculty, students and information.
“Even if we implement all our plans, there will still be a shortage of 25,000 places a year on both the education and job market fronts. That can be met through our cordial ties with India,” said Abdul Taib. “That is especially true of TN. Around 70 per cent of the Tamil population has its roots in TN.”
The Prince of Arcot too stressed the need to build upon the relations. “...I pray that the cordial relations continue and the bilateral ties grow,” said Prince Mohammed Abdul Ali.

This Prince of Arcot continues to amaze me.

-----

CHENNAI: Strongly condemning the assassination of the Governor of Pakistan's Punjab Province Salman Taseer by one of his security guards, the Prince of Arcot Nawab Mohammed Abdul Ali said on Thursday that attacking and killing people in the name of religion was not the path ordained by the Koran.

In a statement, he said: “The extremists might have been upset with Mr. Taseer for his support to a Christian woman charged with blasphemy, but they could always have joined issue intellectually and not resorted to killing, which is not the way of the Noble Koran and the authentic sayings ( Hadith) of the Holy Prophet.

“Islam preaches tolerance, forgiveness, peace and non-violence and condemns extremism and fanaticism. A true Muslim should strictly adhere to the religion and not indulge in violent behaviour, which is against the tenets of Islam,” the Nawab said.

The hard-core miscreants had crossed all limits of civilised conduct in attacking and killing innocent people, and through such acts, they would earn nothing but the wrath of God. Any person/persons or group that attempted to rule the world through aggression and atrocity could not thrive.

“The Almighty God commands in the Noble Koran to respect and honour human life and not to kill human beings and thereby commit excesses on earth.”

The Nawab called upon people to “unequivocally condemn the brutal killings of human beings by extremists and fanatics and not to fall victim to such acts and desist from giving any quarter to acts of inhumanity, violence or revenge in the name of religion.”

the reason why what he said is amazing is because he is taking on the muslim extremists head on by slamming them without mincing any words. even liberal muslims shy away from criticizing extremist muslims lest they become targets themselves. Prince of Arcot has to be appreciated for his courage.

Prince of Arcot calls for end to dowry

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: The Social Aid Charitable Trust conducted an annual mass wedding of 30 couples from the poorest sections of society on Wednesday in the city.

The members of the Trust worked together in selecting 10 Hindu, 10 Muslim and 10 Christian couples, raising funds and arranging the wedding ceremonies, held according to their respective traditions.

Addressing the wedding reception, the Prince of Arcot, Mohammed Abdul Ali, who is also the Chairman of the mass wedding project committee, urged non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to create awareness among the public and discourage the evil of dowry.

He appealed to the people to make all efforts to stop the practice that ruined the "lives and finances of many families and girls."
