Wow, beautiful rendering of a great composition. You can see the joy in the kid's face.

If you substitute "Brahmam" and "Sri Hari" with "the essence in nature", you should have no objection to the meaning in the song. In fact, you don't need to substitute, they mean the same.Idéfix wrote:pillalu chAlA bAgA pAdAru, antE.

There are many agnostics of southern Indian origin who are deeply moved by Carnatic music with the same emotional intensity that moves believers. There is no need to change anything to anything. The trials and tribulations of the human spirit and the things that move us are quite universal.

People usually attribute the bhakti movement in Gujarat to Vallabhacharya. However, such a movement was in full swing when Vallabha entered the scene. Here is an example (composed in mid 1400's) that eventually became very popular across India, thanks to Gandhi.

Exactly. In addition to the music, I also appreciate the composer's way with words when I listen to songs like these. It is possible to enjoy the intellectual accomplishments of people whose beliefs differ from your own.

Don't feel bad :-). There is nothing wrong with bhakti as long as it doesn't make us intolerant and violent. In fact, our mind uses that avenue routinely. Devotion to work is one such example. The areas in the brain that indulge in bhakti towards work and imagined stuff like God are the same. You even use the same areas (to a large extent) for showing affection to a little kid or a pet......Idéfix wrote:MaxEntropy_Man wrote:Vakavaka Pakapaka wrote:If you substitute "Brahmam" and "Sri Hari" with "the essence in nature", you should have no objection to the meaning in the song.
