What is World Toilet Day?
World Toilet Day, celebrated on 19th November, is about taking action to ensure that everyone has a safe toilet by 2030. This is part of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6: sanitation and water.

More so a requirement in India. I remember the first time mom visited US, one of the things that she was most impressed was the public restrooms. They were there everywhere and one needn’t worry about going to the restroom when when is out of the house. Didn’t have that convenience in India back in the day. While men could piss anywhere by the wall, women couldn’t do that. It was a nightmare if one had to go. It’s a little better now, at least in the cities.

A huge problem, which is further compounded by the bad attitude on the part of ordinary public and society in general (including religious and political leaders) that activities involving public cleaning / sweeping etc. don't need to be undertaken by them and that only the lowly and menial persons are fit to do such tasks.Pentamma wrote:Seva Lamberdar wrote:What is World Toilet Day?

I had a number of blogs posted on problems related to sanitation and cleanliness in India, including lack of public bathrooms / toilets (especially for women), starting in 2003 (a few of them listed below):

(2) "Improving the sanitation situation in India" .... http://www.geocities.ws/lamberdar/sanitation_india.html
(3) Appendix (added: Aug. 21, 2012) "Practical steps to end untouchability quickly and effectively" ..
