You know you are...
You know you are tired, maybe old and tired, when you begin to doze off while lying on your tummy on a table, and the lady, who’s a major chatterbox, is still talking and waxing the back of your legs.

Re: You know you are...
Hi Kris. HNY 2020. Has the next financial meltdown started? If not, when?
Hi TW. I thought you had finally left the site. Today I accidentally checked the email associated with this account and saw there have been replies. How are the kids? I'm good. I'm pretty much retired now as both my sons are in the saddle. If I did not retire, they would never learn. I now stroll through parks, watch movies with missus, exercise and read news online. As hard it may sound, time flies even with these mundane activities. I'm happy but I think I need to go back to what I did best -- business. So I am thinking of starting soime small business on my own and away from my sons. I'll get to this project in a month for the coming month missus and I are leisure travelling.
Remember the days when you were RS-K and there was sulekha coffeehouse? What mad chatter/gossip/discussions used to go on there. Oh, remember QB! Kya din the!

Hi HK,
Good to know you are winding down and your sons are up and running. On financial meltdowns, hope nothing big on the horizon. That would throw a monkey wrench into my retirement plans.
I need to get on the treadmill. Have been watching too many movies sitting on the couch.

Re: You know you are...
You are right Kris. US economy is not in the fear of recession. Europe is though. Indian economy is in a bad way and one of the reasons that get cited for this is global recession. But despite being so bad, I understand the fundamentals of Indian economy are good. Personally I do not have faith in Modi-Shah being able to steer India out of this crisis. I feel things might get worse (before they get better).
So are you retired? If not, great. Your kids must be settled now. I think you have 2 sons and possibly one is into music?
20+ years have passed since we met online in 1999. Who would have thought back then that we would still be talking to each other in 2020.

Hi HK,
I try not to worry about economic cycles for my own sanity. Besides as Galbraith opined ‘the sole purpose of economic forecasting is to make astrology look respectable’
The boys are getting older. The older is still into music. Plays occasionally at clubs on open mike days. Just got a fellowship for doctoral work. It is in the Humanities. Says he wants to teach after that. I am trying to get him to change his mind and go into industry’, but have not been able to disabuse him of his idealism. The younger is at the New School/ Parsons which is an artsy school but he is studying marketing. He is a bit of a wheeler dealer buys and sells unique clothes, shoes online and often comments on the pointlessness of a college education. He is got a year and a half to go. Then he is off my payroll, unless he has a change of heart and wants to do an MBA. I can start thinking about retirement after that. The Mrs has been dropping broad hints that we need to start traveling more. I also want to come to India more. Down the road, I will maybe switch to consulting which will give me time flexibility as opposed to retirement.
We can compare notes in 2040:)

Re: You know you are...
Once your kids get married and get busy with their families, leaving you and missus on your own, you probably will unretire and even do yourself the daily chores like cooking, cleaning etc.Huzefa wrote:Hi Kris. HNY 2020. Has the next financial meltdown started? If not, when?

younger also joined your business?
where are you and missus leisurely traveling? say my hi to her. i recently went to thailand, and it's so full of Buddhism that i thought of you. are you still into it? loved how they have maintained the culture... and yeah i know thailand has its own shady connotations, especially in india, but you can totally avoid that scene, and then there's the food omg.
yeah good old sulekha/such days, helped me through a rough patch, totally grateful for that, even though it came with 1 or 2 abusive crazy fake so-called friends, but it's all in the past now. i am still in occasional/random touch with a few, but at this point of time, sulekha is almost completely out of our dynamics. and i have build decent associations with people outside of it, so i am not sure why i still continue to post here lol. maybe just an old habit of sharing stuff that i wouldn't on my fb/whatsapp.

2040? That is so like tomorrow. I want to be awake to see if we are still talking in 2070. :-)
Aunty, I'll get back to you tomorrow if you haven't left the site before then.
Seva ji, yes, I have already starting doing some of the manual chores myself. Any routine makes a retired man happy and doing one's own bed is the among the best routines.

Sorry for late reply. I hate typing now -- have typed infrequently last few years and fallen out of habit.
Yes, Gautam joined business last year Aug. Check him out at bottom of page -- http://singh-associates.com/
We were going to mumbai & goa today. Missus had a fight with me last night and we have cancelled everything.
I'm past Buddhism.Buddha's ways were very hard and strike rate for nirvana was very low. decided I'd rather wallow in sorrow for the rest of my life -- not many years hopefully, phew!
My new religion is -- Don't worry; Enjoy life.
Keep sharing stuff here even if no one reads. We don't know why we do the things we do so don't worry. As my favourite mathematician-philosopher used to say -- the truth (in math) is true for no reason. It's true by accident (random). And that is why we can never know what's going on and we can never prove what is going on.
Catch you some other time Aunty. Or whatsapp me if you want to talk (not throwing you an invite as much as being courteous -- nine ate tree 0049280)
