A wife is expected to put her own wishes down and do as everyone else wants her to do. Even if what is asked to being done will cause her discomfort, unhappiness, loneliness but still she is the one expected to bow down because it becomes about everyone else's ego.

There is an assumption that only she has to change, she has to listen to fit in what all everyone needs of her. Or else it becomes about other's egos and she has to manage it under all costs.
