Samyukta Kisan Morcha calls off farmers' February 1 march to Parliament
New Delhi (Jan. 27, 2021)
The Samyukta Kisan Morcha, an umbrella body of agitating farmer unions, on Wednesday announced to postpone the march to Parliament on February 1 after Tuesday’s violence in Delhi during the tractor parade.
Instead, they would observe fast and hold meetings across the country on the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on January 30.
Balbir Singh Rajewal regretted the incident that took place at Red Fort.
They blamed Deep Sidhu and Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee for the unfortunate incident.
The morcha said they will expose the “conspiracy” of the government.
The farmer leaders added that several of their protesting farmers are still missing.
"FIRs have been registered against several innocent farmers also. It was a conspiracy to break the brotherhood among the farmers of Haryana and Punjab, as earlier the Haryana government had played SYL card to divide the farmers," they added.

free electricity and water, etc.,
minimum selling price (MSP) guarantee subsidy on farm produce,
education and job quota subsidy (under OBC) to children of caste farmers (with ancestral family occupation label indicating agriculture) irrespective of their current occupation and earnings,

A further comment on landowners, besides dalaals and middlemen, opposing the reform laws.
The private land owners (local and outsiders) and land owning politicians might also oppose the change in laws, because, even though they are not real farmers and their land is cultivated only by the hired farm hands and laborers, they themselves benefit enormously from current farm subsidies, including MSP (minimum selling price) guarantee etc., which ensure them steady income without much headache and effort currently.
Under the new laws, due to market determined prices and competition rather than MSP, the land owners would have to be more vigilant and actively participating and decision making to earn a decent income from their land.
It will be interesting to publish info. on the land owned by various politicians (ministers, chief ministers, MPs, MLAs etc.) and their families across the land.

Samyukta Kisan Morcha announces nationwide roadblock on February 6
New Delhi, February 1, 2021
Farmer unions Monday announced a countrywide 'chakka jam' on February 6 when they would block national and state highways for three hours in protest against the internet ban in areas near their agitation sites, harassment allegedly meted out to them by authorities, and other issues.
Union leaders told a press conference at the Singhu Border here that they will block the roads between 12 pm to 3 pm on February 6.
They also alleged that farmers have been "ignored" in the Union Budget 2021-22, and water and power supply have been curtailed at their protest venues.
The Samkyukt Kisan Morcha, an umbrella body of protesting unions, also alleged that the Twitter accounts of Kisan Ekta Morcha and a user named 'Tractor2Twitter' have been restricted.
Swaraj Abhiyan leader Yogendra Yadav alleged the action against the Twitter account was taken at the "request of government authorities".
He also claimed that the Union government has "reduced the allocation to agriculture sector" in this budget.--- PTI
