The Conservative Party of Canada picks Pierre Poilievre as leader and its prime ministerial candidate for next federal election
Following nearly a year-long leadership election campaign and debates*, the general membership of Conservative Party of Canada today (Sept. 10, 2022) elected Mr. Pierre Poilievre as party's new leader, who will immediately assume the role of leader of Conservative Party in the House of Commons (the Lower House of Canada's Parliament) in Ottawa and will also automatically be the prime ministerial candidate of Conservative Party in the next federal (Parliamentary) elections.
Mr. Pierre Poilievre secured 68 per cent (more than the required minimum half or 50 per cent) of electoral points on the first ballot to beat leadership rivals Mr. Scott Aitchison, Mr. Roman Baber, Mr. Jean Charest, and Ms. Leslyn Lewis.
