Mr. John Tory elected as mayor of Toronto (Ontario, Canada) for third time on Oct. 24, 2022
In an earlier post on Oct. 17th (Ref.), there was information about a debate among 5 leading candidates (including the incumbent mayor John Tory) running to get elected as mayor of city of Toronto.
The municipal / city council (Govt.) of Toronto (Ont., Canada) has 26 members, including the mayor (elected citywide) and 25 councillors (elected individually / separately in each ward). The city or municipal Govt. (headed by the mayor) is local (lowest) level Govt, behind the federal Govt. (headed by the prime minister of Canada) and the provincial Govt. (headed by the premier of province of Ontario).
The term in office for the mayor and other councillors in Toronto municipality lasts for four years, after they are voted into office by Toronto residents who hold Canadian citizenship, are at least 18 years old and are not prohibited from voting under any law.
