This guy wears a lungi to take a military salute in the cold Dehradun, and wears a suit (I am assuming it's a suit, not a jacket over a lungi) in hot Madras!

i've seen many photographs of chidambaram, but never one in which he's wearing a lungi. i don't think he's wearing a suit in this photograph; he's probably wearing a shirt with a veshti.

Well veshtis/dhotis with zari borders may be more formal, but don't suit for cold weather and/or military salutes. So do suits, heavy fiber pants, jackets for hot weather.
