Venus will transit the Sun in once in a lifetime event this June. It transits very infrequently and its transit has been used by early astronomers to predict the distance between sun and the earth. Edmond Halley suggested astronomers should observe the transit from different points on earth to accurately measure the distance. Here is where the Pondicherry connection come in.. follow the next link.


A French astronomer Guillaume Le Gentil, went through hell and back when he wanted to see the transit from Pondicherry. Great story.

I guess even once in a lifetime events don't pique interest among SuChers unless it has something to do with Duckini/Cluckini. I even dug up a tenuous albeit fun connection between venus transit and pondicherry and still no mas. What to do?

with chuncles and chaunties patronage, you are a hopeless optimist to expect interest in Venus-OTOH, perhaps the 7th one might have, for some, with their fantasies !
