Dr. Koenraad Elst says:

"Sikh history has its moments of heroism, but not particularly more than that of the Marathas or Rajputs. And like the Rajputs and Marathas, Sikhism also has a history of collaboration with the Moghul throne."

What is your take on that?

sikhs were allies of the mughals at the time of akbar. unfortunately during the reign of jahangir they became enemies of the mughals because of an unfortunate incident. jahangir's son khusrau revolted against his father (so as to become the next emperor) and he fled towards the punjab with his men so as to regroup later and fight with jahangir for the mughal throne. while in punjab, khusrau met Guru Arjan who publicly blessed him and applied a tika on his forehead. when jahangir heard this, he ordered Arjan to be executed. this began the hostility of the sikhs with the mughals. but it should be noted that the execution was ordered not for any religious reason, but for a political reason. Sir Thomas Roe, british ambassador at the court of Jahangir, wrote in his memoirs that 'all kinds of religions are welcome and free, for the king is of none.'
