Col. Hoffman of the German 8th Army said that about Field Marshall von Hindenberg during the East Prussian campaign to drive out the Russians during the beginning stages of the 1st World War. The 70+ Hindenberg who was brought out of retirement served as the co-commander for the campaign while General Ludendorff served as the Operations Commander. Hindenberg later served as the Chancellor of Germany during the Weimar Republic days immediately before Adolph Hitler.
