Home is where the heart is? Empty Home is where the heart is?

Post by KumarGji Sun Sep 02, 2012 10:41 am

Well as I search for the 'best' place to live, I remember that old idiom, 'home is where the heart is'. Sometimes I feel no amount of rationalizing and comparing factors that suit me in different cities would help. May be its a subconscious 'gut feeling' that makes one choose which city they will make their home. My friends live all over the world, they don't live anymore in the city where I grew up. I do have some job options in certain metros, just like everyone. So sometimes I don't feel a sense of belonging anywhere, and feel all the places, US, Europe or India are one and the same for me. There is no "charm"(as they say) in living in the US, Europe or even India- they all the same to me. How did you guys decide to make the current city you live in your home? What is largely a 'vibe' or a 'gut feeling' that made your decision final? :-) Thanks

career, good public schools, and the desire for proximity to wide open clean spaces where one can bike and hike if one desired. those are some of the many reasons why i live where i live.

>>>> I didn't make a conscious decision on this matter. It is more a case of where my employment led me. It so happens I love the place I live in-- suburban america, which translates to space, relative environmental cleanliness and aesthetic layout. The added bonus items are good weather, more or less year-round, and proximity to a couple of metro areas which are vibrant in terms of industries that attract intelligent people. If I had to make another choice now, it would be a place line Barcelona If economics were not a consideration (purely for the beauty of the place). Of course, if it has to be a practical alternative, it would be a place like Singapore, which is close to India and and also has a more-or-less first world economy and living conditions.
