nice video. The dress code of desi IT dudes is sorta universal now. duddettes try to be in sync with country that they are in.

this is fine and dandy and makes for good television, but when are indians going to demand better governance and accountability from their public officials and politicians?

a) it is easier to clean and take personal responsibility then to try and get accountability from politicians. you knew that.
b) I admit it is the easiest to to be an armchair critic and say stuff like "ewweryday weclean differAndifferAdareaofhospital" ^(50). ya? anyone you know does stuff like that? just curious:-)

Excellent job. It would have been more efficient for the IBMers to hire some cleanup workers to do it, given that their own hourly wages are much higher, but that's just me quibbling. More companies should follow this example.

most wall street companies here go out on a day of 'community services' every summer. short form usually is CWS or CTW or sth.... basically, cleaning up some park, free dog grooming, and what not. hoosband has so many t-shirts and hats to talk about it.

Yeah, my hubby had gone to cleanup a lakeside park this summer.

Yeah - doing such things once in a while makes everyone feel good and virtuous. And a nice publicity stunt for the company.
Much better if the company can extend this to sponsor a programme where a bunch of people are hired long term to keep the neighbourhood clean and take on the responsibility to manage them - jobs for some and a more permanent outcome.

The reason they make the employees do such things is 1. to have a sense of giving back to the community 2. to feel like a part of the community and have a sense of social responsibility.
Such feelings can't be inculcated into their employees if they hire someone to do the job.
If more and more ppl in india volunteer like the above, the civic sense in indians can be improved to a great extent. Right now the majority there believe that public property is something that doesn't belong to them and that it can be abused left and right.
