Already economy is in deep trouble. What was previously a success story in libya now evokes the images of dead ambassador.
Just when obama supporters felt europe stabilized to minimize the possibility of a massive economic shock, mideast goes down the drain .
Obamas convention could be wipednout by this voilent distraction.
the biggest danger for obama is the fatigue factor and average american decides enough bad news we need a change. That sentiment could trounce all other positives.

TBT,

My take:

Obviously, there are many challenges..on many fronts.

However, I think the opposite..no matter what the opposition may say, Americans generally unite and stand together when there is a foreign-international crisis which threatens Americans..people don't like to change horses/leaders (with exception Jimmy Carter and the Iran hostages which was a very different situation). Mr. Romney is no Mr. Reagan and Mr. Obama is like a Ninja, no paavam Mr. Carter! Not to mention- a strong lady warrior SOS, Ms. Hillary by his side..who is quite popular with voters at this time, seems to be an asset to him.

I think the Economy will slightly improve by Nov- at least when it comes to "perceptions"..Dow will hit 14,000- things an "average voter" can understand. People also understand..that no one can dramatically "fix" everything so easily in a changing interconnected-global economy.

Having said all this..the debates may change the mind of a few undecided voters in the swing states..unless there is some major mistake/gaffe by Pres. Obama or something personal- really bad comes out about him..doubt if there are going to be any other big shifts.

President and his supporters are already in a defensive mode.
Muslim voilence is an irritant and not a major war or existential problem. While americans differ to the prezident in terms of crisis they don't give up right to get irritated about prolonged minor pin pricks. Voter in question is not average american but blue collar economy impacted white men/women who are still undecided.
Obama already played his cards. He can only hope external abnormalities do not change the atmosphere. I do not see any positive in mideast crisis for obama other than the fact romney was completely lost in all this noise.
yes. Debates are one of the few chances left for romney. He has to show he is presidential enough standing next to obama. Romney's other remaining weapons are massive money for ads in last few weeks(or spread lies with no time to refute), and massive voter mobilization and equally massive voter suppression. Of course, romney could always call up god for a dramaticeconomic collapse.

I am sure what happened in Libya caught the Obama Admin off-guard and they were scrambling for a day, but they have quickly stabilized..and trying to do everything they can from sending troops, making the calls to leaders of various countries, to honoring the victims.

*Looks like the call the Prez made to the new Egyptian Pres is working..and they got the message..the Muslim Brotherhood leadership must have realized what would be in their best interests, taken better control and stabilized their forces to deal with it better today..things seem to be getting back to normal.. but, we'll see what happens..

Since small protests have spread to places like Australia and India (Chennai- yesterday)..no one can blame only "the Middle Eastern Muslim Countries- Govts" for supporting these "small" protests..people were hurt (as strange as it may seem to Non-Muslims) and unfortunately some took to the streets and some exploiters took advantage to show their resentment towards the US.

*And it's good that the US law enforcement agencies at least show "symbolically" that they are trying to take some actions- against people who made this film for their "other criminal activities", if any Christian Charity group was involved (as per reports) they better shut them down, if they were violating any Charity foundation policies. In a world where symbolism is important..this is important too.

I agree there are plenty of challenges..and no one can be absolutely sure, how the undecided voters may see all this.
