We were planning to go to Japan, but that got shot down. So now we are talking about a couple weeks in the northeast.

I hadn't realized it's a long weekend coming. This sucks.

A road trip along the pacific coast highway and stopping over for small hikes and interesting beach towns.

I guess we will end up going to Sonoma. It's our "default" long weekend plan. Don't know if I can get any hotel in Monterey-Carmel -- that would be the other option.

Would be starting in Irvine. One stop will be Santa Barbara. After that we are not sure - will keep it flexible. Continue as long as we want and go as far as time permits. We will not continue beyond Carmel/Monterey.

When I was in the the Silicon Valley we drove a few miles south of Carmel into the Big Sur region. It was fabulous.

Do you have any suggestions?

Yeah, Big Sur is the clear highlight of that route. I also love Solvang and Lompoc -- little towns with lots of character. Also look up Santa Maria and Santa Ynez if you are into (a) wine, (b) Michael Jackson, or (c) the mid-2000s movie Sideways.
