Yes, that's a fair statement. He also gave it lots of gifts, like sewers, etc. like a gangster gives his moll some pocket money from the hafta he has extracted from people.

that is not a fair statement. he was somewhat impetuous in his early days and might have confiscated her jewelry and dowry monies, took her passport, performed repeated marital rape etc but that was in youthful exuberance. after a few decades passed he grew more mature, writing poems lauding her beauty, gave her money to spend on biryanis, haleems, chicken 65, doublekameetha etc. if you look at history, gandhi, jesus and other historical figures did the same.
