Views on Tamil/SI movie stars
Have been watching a whole lot of distinctly different type of tamil movies. No foreign jinga-jingas, grand movie sets. No action stars. they use the real towns and people for the movie. The stars seem to just be themselves on the movies as on TV interviews - you don't see any difference in them.
Vimal, Sasikumar, Cheran, Iniya, Amla paul, etc... seem a group apart.
Also, noticed the yester year stars Nadia, Suhasini, and Devyani (naarthi actress) are in late 30s and 40s are fabulous looking and can easily play a heroine in her 20s, and their demeanor and interaction with interviewers is so down to earth. Of course they never acted in bimbo roles and easier to maintain their image. Surprisingly they mostly come traditional saris with the in whole southie requirements of a married woman (in those days) with kumkum, etc..
Just my observation...

Of course not. Their movies are very good - most of the time, devoid of all commercial dishoom, dishoom.
There are quite a few movies where the heroes have pscyhiatric illnesses and how it affects love, marriage, etc... The tamil movies dont necessarily go for great looks in their heroes. The writers, directors, music directors, script writers are all in their 30s and wearing multiple hats including playing heroes. I have become addicted to these non-masala movies. Quite a few off-beat stories: Heros with Psychiatric illnesses and their love affairs, marriage, life, society's treatment of them, etc....
