Congratulations $Kar for his record appearance - again! This time he was not bowled through gate. So he is good for another PhiPhTy more matches. Where is the replacement? Damn!

Re: Test 1
There is no replacement. MP quota is limited to only 1 spot. Maybe he will step down when he completes the Rajya sabha term.

because the Kapitan said that he wants to see the raja field for 2 days to confirm his fitness. Otherwise he can be fired even if he has the backing of one Sandeep Patil (and company). Between you and me, he is a better fit in the team than one famed 23 year veteran who scores tonty two in phiphty balls! Methinks he will get his last hundred in Mumbai and hang up his shoes. BTW this is Pujara's second test hundred, I hear. He has a L-O-N-G way to go. Has to prove on OZ soil and SA soil before he can be branded as a Dravid. Also needs a couple of skull cracks from the likes of Steyn and probably a knee replacement :-) Without those he will remain a newbie.

Re: Test 1
Yuvan is in the team because his spin bowling is handy and KP absolutely hates to face him. In the 2008 tour Dhobi used this tactic to get KP out a few times.
Yes, Pujara has a long way to go. But atleast he has gone somewhere unlike serial failures Raina, Rohit, etc.

Re: Test 1
catching up on the highlights. the bowling thus far seems to be a contest of mediocrity. pathetic.

Re: Test 1
Watching the match gives a kind of feeling that India is back to spin days - finally...
Think it is a good idea to provide turning wickets. Bcz India not only needs to rebuild its team but also its confidence. The 2 series should help build some confidence and the team (even if it is on spin tracks) before they go to SA to regain confidence against pace.

Re: Test 1
Strange...when Bresnan and andersen were bowling at 125 to 135, Umesh is bowling at 146 on the same pitch.
if only someone can "fine tune" him....

Re: Test 1
Speed has nothing to do with pitch. What matters is whether the ball can do something after pitching. Yadav needs to develop accuracy and swing.

Re: Test 1
idiot dhoni missed an easy stumping chance. zaheer finally got a break through with his reverse swing.

Re: Test 1
Epic innings by Alistair Cook with nice support from Prior. Broad, Bresnan and Swann can all bat a bit so England still has a chance to save this game. Dhobi and Tendulkar should quit with immediate effect.

Re: Test 1
apparently the bcci is doing some of its usual greedy and underhanded business dealings and the net result is that a lot of the foreign sports reporting organizations do not have permission to take photographs of the test match.
so this is what the telegraph newspaper is offering instead. funny!

Congratulations to the tigers at home on their first win, hopefully a series win. Pujara's future appears to be bright, hopefully he is our new Dravid not Kambli.

Re: Test 1
Yup - congrats to India. A win is a win, much better than ending up as losers yet again. I don't think a sweep is possible, though. If England bat first and post a big total, we could see a repeat of test 1 in reverse.I think Kambli would have thrived batting with super powerful bats on the flat wickets of today. He was born a generation too soon.
