Lincoln Empty Lincoln

Finally watched the movie this weekend. Daniel Day Lewis and Tommy Lee Jones did fantastic jobs as Lincoln and Thaddeus Stevens respectively. I was surprised that the movie captured a lot of the murky details of Congressional political intrigue that people beyond Washington rarely pay attention to. Before I saw the movie, I had read some articles saying this is Hollywood's message for Obama in his second term, telling to get things done. But watching the movie, I felt that it was more a portrayal of Lincoln's beliefs and convictions. The film portrays Lincoln as recognizing that the southern states would return to the union, and that the northern interest in abolition would fade away with war's end, and the passage of the 13th amendment was a lot more important to him and the Radical Republicans than it was to most Americans at the time. I am not sure if Lincoln was ahead of his times the way the movie portrays him, but the movie certainly makes me want to read more about him.

My son saw and had similar views on it. My wife is bugging me to go and see. May be I'll, one of these days.

A few of my friends hated that film. They said it is not worth watching inspite of the good cast. I dont like spielberg, so will wait for dvd.
