that is a spoof. here is the original from the movie thevar magan.
background: son returns home after a long sojourn for education. terrible intra family violence occurs during his return home resulting in the killing and maiming of individuals associated with the two sides of the family. son is disgusted and wants to leave home again.

Even if the son returns after years of education, some of the habits of a rural community persists - a young son who was never addressed directly by the father in his entire life and is allowed to grow up at a distance with the patriarch casting an approving gaze understands perfectly well the deep affection and respect his father holds for him. There is a very subtle dynamic where there are moments of the son speaking up (in volume) and quickly catches himself and corrects towards the accepted norm. It is a study of inter-generational communication as it prevailed in rural TN.
Another masterful scene to study would be the scene where Kamal as Nayagan argues with his son (in the film Nayagan) about the son's initiation into the underworld. While the son intellectually understands the nuances of the underworld and its modus operandi, yet instinctually the don feels he is not ready but is defeated in argument - and pays for it heavily with his son's slaughter that night.
Max gave the context of violence and widespread grief that suffuses the scene - that is the reason for the crying. And in general, rural TN patriarchs are not known for showing emotions - it is reserved for special occasions and will probably go down in family history as a notable moment if it did. Probably the reverse i.e., not crying enough is what causes a lot of violence.

Yeah.. as a person who grew up in TN and went to college in Madras, you don't have to address them as 'younger man' and 'these people'. I am sure you know who they are.

Excellent point...it is a developmental milestone - it took me a conscious adjustment to come to terms with petta-Rap and morning Hindu while assimilating into legal arcana like 'billeting soldiers at times of war' or ordering "Evelyn's pasta, hold the mushroom".
