A not-too-miserable x-mas Empty A not-too-miserable x-mas

Lay Mizeraab is a tour de force and should garner some Oscars. The tedium of a 2:40 hour musical was never felt thanks to some amazing dramatic (read: in the vein of Indian movies) acting by Hugh Jackman, a classy Crowe and a wow performance by Anne Hathaway. Of course, the whole story has heavy Christian overtones and I felt like I had been to an X-mas Midnight Mass surrounded as I was by what seemed like an Apollo theater-going evangelicals bused in to see the opening day show. I thought the basic thesis statement had something to do with two strands of Christian thinking - doing one's duty in the mortal world and answering the calls for higher duty to God. Minor corollaries about love and compassion for fellow man and how that is the only enduring thing in this transient life were also dutifully presented.

A good movie to watch with family.
