these women with these high heels and the men who play powerful characters, what is not to like  Very Happy

BTW, what is with pumps and seduction? they do hand it hand, it looks like. awesome series. I might end up liking this more than breaking bad.

finally got around to watching both seasons. i still prefer the original, but the remake has its moments. the plot line is more complicated, or meandering is more like it, spacey as a southern democratic congressman is believable and delivers, the sex is more explicit american style,  but the rest of the political cast is meh, especially the guy who plays the president, really insipid performance.  i was looking for one character who would be spacey's foil, not just plot wise but theatrically, and s/he was completely missing. the one thing i liked better in this is the wife character. i thought robin wright was given more leeway and space than the bbc character, and she did well. yes stamper in this remake was lame, colin jeavons was way way better as the lackey (aside: i loved him as inspector lestrade in the bbc sherlock holmes series too. just a solid actor).

the first season is watchable, but the second season is completely predictable, down to the (spoiler alert; although no need for this since everyone except me has already watched it all) final knuckle rap on the oval office resolute desk.

spacey's FU is evil, but can never match IR's shakespearean malevolence.

"bhenkatrao" is taken from indophile's example of what he thought were puns: "bhenkatrao, bhenkatrao, bhy are you bhandering in the bherandah like a bhagabond?" according to him, there are six puns in that single sentence, because it contains six distorted words. you'll have to ask indophile whom he was trying to ingratiate himself with.

watched only one episode of the second season - found it too boring and predictable and decided to abandon it.

some of the non-standard british accents are difficult to understand. i never have problems with cut glass british accents, but the various cockneys and scottish accents are difficult to understand. i find myself rewinding often while i watch luther.

What a drag season 5 was! Noticeably missing - Mahershala  Ali and Molly Parker. Perhaps to keep costs down. Wonder if Netflix will now cancel the series like they did with other expensive shows.

This was a really bad season. I didn't like the last season much either, but this was just not good. They should have ended the series at season 3.

Overall other than the Hollywood glitziness, this is no patch on the Brit original.
