South India, which contributes 22 per cent to the country’s GDP, will become a USD 700 billion economy in the next five years, and USD 1,200 billion by 2020, Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma said today.
Addressing a meeting of CEOs in Bangalore, Mr. Sharma said the southern states have been major driver of growth in the last decade. They have become centres of manufacturing industries like textiles, automobiles, defence, aerospace and pharmaceuticals.
The aggregate gross domestic product of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Puducherry at present is USD 300 billion.
He said the Centre is working on new manufacturing policy, under which National Investment and Manufacturing Zones (NIMZS) are being planned as mega investment regions.
Earlier laying the foundation stone for the Nano-Manufacturing Technology Centre, he said, a meeting to be chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will discuss the draft manufacturing policy in New Delhi on June 9.
“The objective is to identify key instrumentalities by which the share of manufacturing in our GDP can be augmented from 15 per cent to 25 per cent by 2025,” Mr. Sharma said.

It is time TN and the other states declare independence. Our living standard will reach that of Singapore.

===> Only if SI is a single country. TN going by itself will be a disaster. There will be war over cauvery river and Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra will not let Tamils work in their territories.

When a country separates and claims independence it loses all rights to demand anything from the parent land. International laws - my foot.
You are such an idiot you must come to my pooja sessions and receive Holy Vibhuti for one week.

KV,
You are dreaming if you think an independent TN will be another Singapore.
Singapore is what it is because of a uncorruptible leader like Lee Yuan Kew and the majority being Chinese. Unlike the Tamils in Chennai who go on rampage and burn the busses and destroy the public property, the Chinese are more disciplined, orderly and do not get swayed by their emotions.
Do you think there is any law and order in TN?
BTW I heard that it is the Tamils in Singapore who are the dirtiest. They do not keep their places clean and obey laws like the Chinese.

Wait a minute..... South is only one of 5 Zones in India and perhaps has a population of around 20% and contributes around 22%. I am sure with Bombay, Maharashtra and Gujarat the West also contributes around 25% of India's GDP. The East with most mines and Oil is likely to contribute around 25% as well as does the central Zone. The North is the only basket case that is being compensated by others. But, the North contributes much to the projects in all other zones through 50% of the bribe money.
So India is pretty homogenous in GDP contribution.
