BK rocks! 2 for 2 now. Exciting to see an Indian bowler who takes wickets.

63/4. Looks like the aussies will fold under 200! Great bowling by Ashwin: 6 overs, 5 maidens, 1 run and 1 wicket! Clarke is their major hope at this point. Dhoni's captaincy is looking good.

Re: aus v india - test 2
Clark turned out to be the saviour again. Not a perfect one but a consistent one. India needs to figure out a way to get him out despite dropped catches and umpiring issues.
For a while it looked like aussies got out of jail and will end with 300 plus total. Indian bowling unit collectively worked well to recover from clarke wade resistence to get them for lessthan 240.
Clarks decision to declare was bold and chancy. His side is expecting this to be a low scoring game. They probably wanted to get seheag in the few overs left.
India should build a large lead to avoid a fourth inning on this pitch. A 400 plus would be a winning total barring a massive australian batting revival.

it's one test and three sessions of another where his fortunes have changed a bit. let's not get too carried away. back to back whitewashes against australia and england cannot be that easily forgotten or forgiven.

Let's keep the fingers crossed. If BK can get three wickets , Pattinson can get many more.

I spoke too soon after India being in the driver's seat at 63 for 4. Thereafter both Clarke and Wade put on a huge partnership of 140+ runs, thanks to Dhoni who didn't use the effective pair of Bhuvi and Ashwin for well over an hour after lunch, but instead kept staying with Ishant and Harbhajan. It wasn't Dhoni's day as a keeper either as he uncharacteristically missed a couple of catches, and had a few byes to the boundary. Once Bhajji got Wade out on an errant shot, things changed dramatically, particularly after some terrific overs by Jadeja.
I hope we don't lose any early wickets tomorrow. Gavaskar seems to think it is a good batting pitch and we are positioned well at this point. I don't think Doherty is any better than Lyon. I am surprised why Johnson isn't in the squad in place of Siddle. And whatever happened to Michael Hussey?

does murali vijay fancy himself to be sehwag like? why is this idiot flashing outside off stump? he should play his natural technically correct game.

Murali Vijay has all the strokes in the game and can be a complete player if he doesn't lose patience and throw his wicket away as he has been doing time and again. That said, he seems to have settled down and I predict he will get past 50, if not 100! Of course, from my lips to God's ears.

I did see a few cows grazing today! And a few sheep, hen and horses too. On days like today when I go out to enjoy the outdoors California doesn't seem like a bad place to live in at all.

Scoring has picked up a bit but Pujara seems to be struggling with cramps or something. I hope he hasn't injured himself again.

Apparently he had a knee injury after playing for Royal Challengers last year and now has recovered. But still a little careful, according to Sivaramakrishnan, the commentator.
Both Vijay and Pujara are batting much better and the RR is creeping up streadily. 71 runs partnership so far and I hope they play through this session, each scoring 50+.

At Tea, India 160/1 Vijay & Pujara both at 73. India would have been at least 25 runs ahead if Pujara didn't have this knee injury who was content with singles when 2's or 3's were possible. Vijay has been understanding and didn't press Pujara.

311/1 at close of 2nd day! An unbelievably great day for India with an unbeaten partnership of 294 runs between Vijay and Pujara. A superb error-free knock of 162 runs by Pujara. Except for a tough catch at first slip that Clarke missed when he was at 71, it was a great day for Vijay as well, now batting at 129. I had a feeling he was due for a century. Tomorrow should be exciting.

good days work by India . runs scored but importantly aussies demoralized.
India should play all of 3 rd day. 350 plus lead is
insurmountable. i do expect some type of fightback from Australia.

Re: aus v india - test 2
when i went to sleep the aussies had bottled up the runs. with the exception of that stylish coaching manual cover drive off pattinson that vijay hit, there was no extravagance from either of these guys in the first session. how this game changes in the matter of a few overs! good going.
pujara was limping not because of his earlier knee surgery but because he fell down scrambling to finish a risky single early on. good he persevered. hope it's nothing serious.

watching the highlights. very enjoyable. pujara is so assured in his shotmaking, so lovely to watch.
eta: vijay too. wristy shot off his pads, just like a former indian batsman from hyderabad now in the commentary box.

Re: aus v india - test 2
finished watching the highlights. pujara's late cuts are ever so delicate and his square cuts on the back foot take the cover off the ball. he is very much like rahul dravid with a slightly more aggressive scoring streak. i hope we have found our longer term #3 and that he has cemented his place.
vijay was great to watch too although i am not yet sure of how he will handle australian and south african tracks.

Not a bad day for india. They could have built a lead of 300 or 350 if they showed patience. But 266 is not bad at all with two aussies back in pavillion.
Ashwin and dhoni plotted the two wickets very well.
It is once again clark vs india? Will he get any support?
I think aussies still have a small chance if they can pull a kolkatta 2001.

Yes, we were 444/4 and then collapsed. Ashwin was effective with left handers. If we can get Watson and Clarke out early, the match is pretty much over tomorrow.

just catching up with yesterday's highlights and more than a bit confused about tendulkar's dismissal. he was given not out to begin with, and then as an afterthought erasmus went to the third umpire after which he reversed his decision and gave him out. they don't have the DRS in play in this series (presumably because of the BCCI's objections to it), and yet the umpire went upstairs for a referral. how did this happen?

It was weird. When the ball went past Tendulkar off the leg stump, there was a loud appeal by Wade and a very emotionally charged appeal by Pattinson. Erasmus shook his head first. But something in Pattison's gesture must have made him look down and speak into the microphone. I wasn't sure what was going on. Then the commentator said he must be checking to see if Dade had caught the ball clean.
Replays showed the ball was gathered cleanly. There was nothing to clearly show the ball touched Tendulkar's bat. At this point the third umpire was reviewing since the signboard flashed "decision pending".
Apparently once the decision is made to go upstairs to the third umpire, he reviews everything, including the sound from snicko. A few seconds later, the umpire held his finger up. Sachin didn't protest and simply walked off the field. Never shook his head at the umpire or questioned him. Very gentlemanly.

Re: aus v india - test 2
they say that batsmen who rely heavily on hand-eye coordination and have dodgy technique will start to fail spectacularly once they are in their thirties. i am afraid this is beginning to happen with sehwag despite his formidable destructive capabilities. it's a telling indictment that his biggest score outside the subcontinent according to cricinfo in the last five years is a 67 in melbourne way back in 2011. sad.

yes looks like the angle change going over the wicket and directing the ball just outside leg and inducing the sweep was all dhoni's idea. he seemed ecstatic at ashwin castling the left handers.

Re: aus v india - test 2
It bothered me that Kumar was denied of two early wickets yesterday. One was a catch at slips when Warner was at 13 that Kohli fumbled and dropped. Sehwag also missed a couple of catches at slips recently. Dravid's absence is telling.
Dhoni missed a catch by over-reaching. Lately he has been uncharateristically sloppy behind the wicket.
