Ind vs Aus -- 3rd Test
Any predictions?
For a change, I expect this to go all 5 days and a DRAW. India wins the Gavaskar-Border Trophy.

Small chance but india may have fallen into a superiority complex and gets rattled. Aussies are fighters but if the pitch supports spin india can win.

good comeback by india after the first session went wicketless. this appears like a decent batting wicket, so a team has to very badly to lose.

Ashwin was awesome today. He was unlucky in not getting Cowan twice, one at slips missed by Kohli and another grounded by Pujara. Jadeja was equally good. We had a great day at 273/7 considering the Aussies were 139/0. If we can get Smith out quickly tomorrow, it should be a wrap around 300.

kohli was awful in the field today. AUS would have been in a worse shape it he had caught those.
it was funny the way clarke got his golden duck after all the talk of discipline. it was bad play. you DON'T come down the wicket to face the first ball in a test as # 3.

Apparently Clarke got stumped exactly the same way in 2009 when Ojha bowled a similar ball. So much for all the hoopla of him batting at #3.

dhawan hits a hundred on debut. well, barring ganguly and sehwag, other batsmen who hit a hundred on debut (amre, raina and many other oldies) had a short test career. he would hope he does not end that way. in any case, we have seen the last of sehwag-gambhir.

Shikar:
That century is at a strike rate faster than seheag (usually between 80 tp 100). No lofted shots before100. Very timely contribution. Let us hope he can do this against stronger attacks and pace friendly pitches.
What does shikar mean? Mountain peak?
Vijay did well to play his own game.

azharuddin also scored a century on debut and went on to lead India and score many more runs.

at 185 not out, shikar's debut is the best ever for India. viswanath's century in second innings was against formidable west Indian attack including Andy Roberts. azharuddin's century was also great because it revealed a great talent.
shikar, keep going. you got a whole day to bat.

i am quite sure vishy's debut was against the aussies. he scored a duck in the first innings and a ton the second. i used to be a huge cricket stats nut.

just checked cricinfo. i was right. against bill lawry's team in kanpur. i even remembered who got him out for a duck in his first outing, alan connolly australia's best quick in the pre- lillee, thommo era.

Dhawan grabbed the opportunity with both hands, while both Gambhir and Sehwag had become complacent sitting on past achievements. These performances by Dhawan/Vijay/Pujara will make their comeback more difficult. For once I didn't miss or noticed if Tendulkar is playing.

I'd like to see Rahane and/or Tiwary in the team and Sachin to retire gracefully. The transition to a young team will be complete. I can see the batsmen are talented and hungry to score.

It won't be a good idea for sachin paaji to retire now. The next series is in SA and you need a experienced guy in the middle order. The young team of aussies did well in their in home turf but see their performance now. It would not have been the case if hussey and punter were in the side. Our situation will be the same if we send an inexperienced young side to SA.

watching the higlights from yesterday. dhawan is a very atypical indian southpaw. not at all like ganguly or gambhir. his booming drives and scorching pulls are more like matthew hayden. easy on the eyes, but powerful.

first ball of the indian innings, shikar dhawan was accidentally mankaded. the aussies knew about it, but didn't appeal and let him play on. good sportsmanship on their part, but they'll be regretting it.

Clarke was impishly signaling for the 3rd umpire review, laughing but not appealing, that I thought was gentlemanly. The replays showed Dhawan clearly out for a golden duck. Thankfully it was his test debut and the aussies were in a generous mood, having no clue about his talent. You won't see a repeat of this generosity again, particularly after the way he punished Doherty, Lyon and Smith today! And the mustache twirl after reaching 150 was a sight to behold!

Wow, amazing innings from Dhawan! This is what you call grabbing an opportunity with both hands. And what a pleasant surprise to see Aussies not getting Dhawan out when they had a chance to.

Nevada, I was just thinking that Dhawan would have been in the doghouse, not the penthouse, had the aussies appealed and got him out for a golden duck. He should thank his lucky stars!

Interesting link. Too bad he had to wait this long to get the opportunity, after a few good years in first class cricket. Wazim Jaffer is another guy who never got much of a chance despite success in Ranji Trophy.

Sounds like a great knock by Dhawan, as great as it is, it came against one of the weakest & inexperienced attacks, will have to wait and see as to how good of an intl. player he will be.

Now they are saying that Dhawan wouldn't have been out by Mankading since the ball just slipped and hit the wicket, and wasn't intentional. Wonder what the rule really is.

and there it is : the familiar indian collapse. i would have liked IND to lead by at least 200 by the end of the day and try to win it on day 5. this is NOT to say half of AUS wouldn't fold on day 4 and give us a chance.
about turdeja - anybody who calls him an all-rounder needs to get his head examined. he can bowl on helpful pitches but can't bat to save his life even on highways. i hope they don't play him in SA and play a specialist batsman (rahane or tiwary).
this series may mark an end to many careers on both sides. on our side, we have harbhajan singh, ishant sharma and sehwag while on their side, they have watson, hughes and those assorted spinners whose names are not worth remembering.

Australia did very well today and got India all out for 216. If Aussies get a decent target around 200, they could repeat the same. The crumbling pitch on 5th day may even make batting difficult for India.

#4's roster call shall be happening in the second innings. He then will have a chance to prove his continued worth in the team. The calls for retire will grow louder if he doesn't.

i have mixed opinions on that one. at times, i feel he should retire now that IND has won the series. this is like a good farewell to him. on the other, i think he should travel to SA with these noobs. SA is the toughest place to tour and his experience may count. if he is wearing glasses while fielding in the last test, we know he is retiring.

that is worrisome. he got starts even in ENG and AUS but could not make them count. yesterday, he was playing for the break. and he always gets out when he plays for the break. he should play only his dominating game.

I've said this once before, unless someone is performing at the highest level experience doesn't really matters in cricket. It is not like basket ball/foot ball where you can pitch in a for a few minutes every night and and be a veteran leader.

Good thing Sachin got run out at the right time so that Jadeja could hit two 4's in that over, and Dhoni three consecutive 4's in the next to win it. Are our guys that good or are the Aussies that bad? We should know when we play SA.

i was making a larger point before that though, unless you think this 40 or so runs he scored in the second innings should earn #4 an unquestioned spot in the team for the upcoming test series in SA.

Bhajji sirji's 4-0 prediction is well on it's way to becoming true! 3 down, 1 more to go.
Winning inspite of a day lost to rain is great! Like Dhobi in Chennai, Dhawan flattened the Aussies with his aggressive batting. And BK started the Aussie collapse in the 2nd innings with 3 early wickets. And he doesn't bowl fast like Umesh or Aaron so I hope he won't break down anytime soon.
I expected the Aussies will bat for a while longer and deny India sufficient time to chase but things turned out otherwise. There seems to be no fight left in Clarke & co. I have never seen an Australian team that surrenders so meekly.

absolutely. clarke is the only player who is contributing. CA has a dozen problems to deal with. where do the begin? needless to say, ENG wins the next ashes. the only thing that is not known yet is if it will be 5-0 or 4-0 (thanks to rain).
what saddens me is that we lost to this team 0-4 last year. this was our golden chance to win a series in AUS. BCCI should have convinced kirsten to stay back by offering 5X money.

Hmm.. I'm pretty confident that had this series is played in Ozzieland the result would've been the other way around. While I'm enjoying our wins I realize that we're not a formidable team by any stretch of imagination.
