sundar pichai. permission granted to rishi to hunt articles and ask lateral questions about whether non catholic jesuit school alumni can work at google and whether he would have had same success had as a tamilian if he attended IIT madras.

Good for him- and hope he does not mess it up.

He seems like a geeky, wonky-type like Bill Gates, with a very stylish and vogue wife- Mrs.Pichai. Talks about his Amma, and that's always a good sign. His mom seems quite tech-savvy too.

"Pichai" is a common, quite old-fashioned Tamil name..could be Christian or Hindu name..he may or may not have been a reservations candidate:)

Mr. Pichai, who studied metallurgical and materials engineering,
graduated from the school in 1993. One of Mr. Pichai’s former
professors, Sanat Kumar Roy, describes him as an “enthusiastic” and
“obedient” student.

After graduating from IIT Kharagpur, Mr. Pichai did a Masters in
engineering and materials science at Stanford University in the U.S. He
also got a Masters in business administration from the Wharton School of
Business.

What has metallurgy got to do with operating systems?

I’m surprised that people are insulting India’s reputation
for technical expertise (see additional insults hurled by reflexor and
ars_technician, below). As a suburban white kid who attended a
highly-ranked engineering school in the US, my experience is that
Indian-born students typically were at or near the top of the class.
All of these insults lead me to believe that either (1) you yourselves
went to inferior institutions (or none at all) and have never interacted
with foreign students, or (2) you got academically dominated by a
foreign-born student at some point. ;-)
