Re: Fate of college goers in Hyderabad
Traveling on the footboard was a common thing in my day, but standing on the bumper is something we didn't do. Those bumpers can come loose pretty easily, so I am surprised they can all stand on it. I used to prefer traveling on the footboard to getting inside the bus, because it is too crowded and hot inside the bus. You at least catch some breeze and have the ability to get off wherever you need to if you are on the footboard.

Bad idea.
One of my cousins who was 18 at that time travelled on the footboard near the front of the bus. He fell down and the rear wheel ran over him He was crushed to death.

Yeah, it is pretty dangerous. But the young like taking stupid risks. Footboarding (as we used to call it) and driving too fast and trying to pull stunts on a bike were my favorite stupid risks.Rishi wrote:trofimov wrote:Traveling on the footboard was a common thing in my day, but standing on the bumper is something we didn't do. Standing on footboard and catching and alightening from a moving bus were not unusual in the past but as trfimov pointed out i do not remember standing on bumper.
I would have guessed with increasing number of vehicles, dangerous overcrowding on buses would have gone down.
Is carpool an option these days?
