where should we go?
10th anniversary is coming up.
We are itching to go see some exotic place around the world. We have many world-travelers among us.
Thinking of Turkey because the flight tickets from the US to Istanbul are at an all-time low (around 640 dollars RT).
will 15 days in Turkey be too much? Any other place that you can suggest?

Re: where should we go?
There are about 40 people on this site. Who are the 'many' world-travelers?
My suggestion: Spend a week in Puerto Rico. And I don't mean in a resort. Again, Turkey or Puerto Rico or anywhere else, I suppose you want to go when the weather is nice there.

Re: where should we go?
aww DM, congrats! 10 years, wow. 2-week getaway, wower. Going with kids?
I am world's worst trip planner so my suggestions may not mean much (my siblings still compete on which one of them were taken on the worst trip by me ). But, maybe you can do a 2-week cruise through caribbeans or europe or alaska. Actually scratch caribbeans if it's summer time. Too hot. Anyways, if you choose that, it would be your moving hotel, and you will get a day at most locations, and many times, a day is more than enough at most of those locations. Also, you will get to glam it up most nights. But then, many people get so bored on cruises that they wanna jump out in the sea.
anyway, have fun whatever you choose.

Re: where should we go?
Congratulations! I strongly recommend Turkey. We spent two weeks there two summers ago. It is a large country with lots of different attractions so 15 days is not too long. Turkey offers a great blend of history, culture, and nature for the tourist, and the people are among the friendliest I have come across in my travels.
Here is how I would break the 15 days out... Istanbul 5-6 days, Selcuk-Efes 2-3 days, Mediterranean cruise or visiting the south coast 4-5 days, Cappadocia 2-3 days. Those are the things we chose to do, but there are several other great options: the Black Sea coast 3-4 days, southeastern mountains and Antioch 2-3 days, and the Aegean coast 3-4 days with a day trip to a Greek island.
If you decide to go to Turkey and have any questions, let me know. I want to go there again in a few years to visit the places we passed up last time.

I think it is possible to spend all 15 days in Istanbul and not be bored. So if you have a day or two extra, spend it there.

Re: where should we go?
Hawaii is my #1 vacation destination. We have been there several times over the years. But 15 days may be too long for Hawaii, unless you hop islands. Java-Bali would make another great two-week vacation, a week on each island, sticking to the eastern side of Java and skipping Jakarta.doofus_maximus wrote:Hawaii, SE Asia, turkey are strong contenders.

Re: where should we go?
when is the anny? if its in winters and want to do outdoor activities then hawaii will be a good destination or australia?
if u just wanna go and park yourself in a resort and pamper yourself with relaxing massages at spa, romantic dining and beautiful views, you may consider cancun. very affordable and beautiful.
or...maldives. it is expensive but so is hawaii. it's b'ful and u can visit ur family back home on ur way back b-)
bora bora?

I have heard great things about Bora Bora. It sounds like a smaller place than Hawaii, but more remote, exclusive, and fun. Perhaps this winter!

anniversary is this November. So probably will be going to a warm place.
Australia for 2015 is decided. Watching a WC 2015 match at the MCG is the target. Taking a picture in front of Bradman Statue is on my bucket list.
looked into maldives and seychelles, but wasn't too into it.

Hopefully not with kids. Heard that place is just not for kids anymore. Sis went 12 years ago and then went again 2 years ago was in for major shock. It wasn't bad last time. But this time it was pretty shocking for them.
I have never been to Vegas. Wonder if I ever will.

send her to a spa and then wander around soaking in the sights.
Went to vegas last year for a bachelor's party. I agree with VB, it isn't for kids.

vegas is for blowing your retirement savings and kids' education fund & spend time in close proximity with shady women of ill repute. who takes their kids to see shows to that place?

Re: where should we go?
We have been to Hawaii, Bahamas, and few other places. But, 15 days will be too much of a time to spend together. Maximum is 2 days and 3 days can be a real stretch for both of us. Well, we know each other for about 20 years, that makes a difference.
But, we have spent more than a week taking pilgrim tours and India tours.
Hawaii is heaven according to me.
Been to Vegas with kids few times. I like it - not that bad; kids know all things these days. When they grow up and visit Vegas with friends they might remember few places. I always make a grand when they go there. *touch wood *

HA! There is a saying in Indian language that when a person is lazy he/she will not be motivated to take a dip even if the river ganges flowed in front of their house.

Thinking of Turkey because the flight tickets from the US to Istanbul are at an all-time low (around 640 dollars RT).

Btw Turkey sounds good. Perhaps you can visit Gobekli Tepe there and later blog about that site here,

Re: where should we go?
Talking of Indian destinations, the one memorable trip for me is the Simla and Kulu Manali trip that I took with rents in the month of October. I was in college then. Saw my first snow then. Everything was so good and (for me) romantic. Also got to meet some distant cousin in Simla and he was able to give us good tours. I would promise myself that I would definitely come back with k there. But then we moved out of India.

>>>Congratulations! I just had a landmark anniversary too, but no big trips. We limited it to a night in SFO city. Yes, Istanbul is a very good choice. It has the right amount of exoticism and yet would be familiar enough. Think a clean Delhi in a European setting by the water. In terms of timing, unless you want to really want to get a feel of the country, 15 days may be a bit much. An alternative suggestion, if I may: see if you can do 5 days in Istanbul and maybe a week on a cruise covering some of the Greek islands. If it is late spring to summer, it will be a treat. The other alternative would be Istanbul + Rome/Barcelona/ Budapest. The last three are all beautiful cities, but I am ranking them in terms of romance (yeah, I know 10 years and all that- pretend like crazy, man! When you get closer to your final plans, feel free to post and I will see if I can give you specifics vis-a-vis the place(s) you choose. If your heart is not set on Istanbul, you can try certain asian destinations, which offer great value for the money, but really you should try Istanbul.
