This is a calculus student's version of schadenfreude.

One piece of good news... Reddy's restaurant in downtown Berkeley finally went out of business recently. I don't know if the persistent boycotts by each successive batch of desi students helped, but I would like to think so.

I grew up with the notion that highly educated and very intelligent guys are likely to be decent, cultured and ethical.

Being a good student and getting high marks is simply a matter of disciplining oneself and being ambitious academically. Of course you need to have brains to begin with.

This Reddy guy is from a landowning family where he has been conditioned to exploit lo his servant maids.

He told me that he went to UC Berkeley. He became a citizen to bring his brothers from his village to the United States. At that time, he was making $3000 per month working as a Chemical Engineer. His brothers did not have the skills and education to get decent jobs here in America. So he started a restaurant to help them out.

"I used to make $3000 a month as a n Engineer. Now I make $3000 a day," he said.

At that time itself he was having a mistress. The woman was managing the kitchen at his restaurant. That is what I heard from a gulti guy who stayed in his dilapidated motel.

Years later, I saw the headline in India Abroad something like "Lanlord arrested in Berkeley." , I knew it was him.

I think the accumulation of wealth and the kind of environment he was operating under made him so brazen and fearless, he stooped to import young girls from his village for his deviant needs.

The key is there.... Whosoever puts money at the top of his objectives (or only objective) is more likely to end up as a crapshoot. It will make a person cut corners, push the envelope on legalities, and override all his skills, character, and education.
