Happy Father's Day!
Yes, it's just one day of special recognition and should be all year long..it's too commerical etc, etc.
But..why not? NO ONE can replace a loving father or father figure, fill that void when they are gone..to you all Dads and Dad figures here..
Happy Father's Day! take good care.
cheers!

Exactly! today moms arranged a picnic, we let one dude err dad take care of a dozen+ kids so rest of us dads could do our own thingy while he took them for a two hour long quasi-hiking. We deserve/demand happy fathers day wishes too.

daughter just wished me happy father's day... i didn't get it first, so i wished her too ... then in a cheesy but still very cute way she explained how i am like a mom and a dad both, coz I am a super mom.

"My pleasure Nice Dad Seva." M.
>>> Thanks, but I don't think I can really make a claim to the category of nice (especially "adequately" providing) dad.
For a couple of years, when the kids were still in early school grades, we (myself, wife and two kids) were stuck in a bachelor apt., thanks to my job situation … although I did made a trip to a Middle Eastern country to change my economic fortunes at that time, but it turned out to be a relatively short stay overseas due to Pres. Reagan not liking that country's leader and putting a lot of economic and military pressure on the leader and the country thus making many foreigners to leave the place.
Anyway things have been getting better slowly over time and I am now the proud renter of a two bedroom apartment in Toronto, which certainly is a huge improvement over the bachelor suite days.
Perhaps in a few more years like this, I may start thinking of myself in terms of a “nice” dad.

Aww Seva. *hugs*. You are nice indeed. If providing for is the main criteria to be called nice, have seen criminal dads out there.

That brings up the idea of designating a "Parents' Day," sometime in the middle of July. That will really teach kids a lesson giving something to their parents - Mothers Day in may, Fathers day in July, and Parents day in July, and why not? a Mother's side Grandparents Day in August, and a Fathers side
Grandparents Day in Septmeber. That will send business Haamark's way, Florists, Fruit and nuts merchants, T-shirt sellers, and such.

Re: Happy Father's Day!
Thanks Impyji for Fathers Day wishes.
Perhaps when your own children start wishing and giving cards to their parents on Mothers Day and Fathers Day, you will look at these special days in different light.

*Dear Seva,
You don't owe me any explanations.."nice" to me is actually a bland-neutral term..it certainly did not mean "ideal or perfect father (parent)"..thank goodness, I have not known any of those kinds..and, imo-it would be unbearable to be around those kinds of parents.
As the child of an immigrant father with an unusual childhood..I do understand a lot about fathers struggling with separation from families.. sacrificing, soul-searching, regrets etc. Yes, we expect fathers to be good providers and protectors (to the best of their abilities)..but, if size of mansions and property would alone determine who are "nicer" and "nicest" fathers/people..it's a very different way of looking at life and relationships, from the way..I do!
Hope you are not so hard on yourself, no need to be:)
*What's happening to the font size..it was working well for me, until now!
