Is that like ginger ale?Merlot Daruwala wrote:goodcitizn wrote:alcoholic drink? How old were you then?
Mine was cognac. I was 12 and my cousin was 10. We pried open my dad's liquor cabinet and indulged. We got very sick after that. And never ventured near the cabinet afterwards. If my dad knew about it he didn't bring it up to us so barring a few sleepless nights we escaped punishment.
Mine was Waterbury's Compound at age 7-8. Lovingly fed to me by my mom, in the hopes of curing me of my fussiness at mealtimes.
Around the same age, I discovered a quarter bottle of Doctor's Brandy in the medicine chest. My dad was (and remains) a teetotaler, so this was probably given by some well-meaning relative as "medicine" for my kid brother's colic. Whenever I was alone, I would take a swig of that stuff, just for the hot flush down the throat and the giddiness that followed. Nobody ever noticed that the bottle was mysteriously emptying. My next acquaintance with alcohol came only 15 years later, with Old Monk and thums up.
Yeah, Waterbury's Compound used to have 14-15% alcohol content, a tad more than a bottle of wine. Dunno if they have modified it now in these politically correct times.
Thums Up was the desi answer to Coke after Coca Cola was booted out of India by the socialists in 1977. It put up a stiff fight when Pepsi entered India in the early 90s. I still remember the mocking ads Thums Up took out at the time: "Waiter, yeh cola hai ya gulab jamun??", poking fun of Pepsi's excessive sweetness. Anyway, Coca Cola bought the brand from Parle in the early 90s when it re-entered India, but to this day, Thums Up continues to enjoy a strong brand following in India.

big titties, I've never ever seen you fight your battles directly but instead do the cowardly sneaky thing of trying to incite others, fulfilling the prevailing stereotype. who made you such a wuss, what formative experiences and so on?

Wasn't Waterbury's some kind of cold remedy? Interesting that Coke bought out Thums Up to go with their other brands --Fanta and Sprite. I think 7 Up belongs to Pepsi. Wonder if it tastes anything like Thums Up.Merlot Daruwala wrote:goodcitizn wrote:No idea about the alcohol % in Waterbury.
