Not to mention Ms. Bagchi can dream of becoming a Mrs. Robinson.

I am not tying any Rakhi/Khakhi to any female.

Highly irrelevant B.S. I just heard that a couple of females in our joint are lesbo lovers.

lol @ bhaizoned video. And thanks for the link. Loved all the quotes in it.

"The first forty years of life give us the text: the next thirty supply the commentary."
"The average woman does not know how to breathe, sit, stand or walk. Now I want women to train for the special duties which may devolve upon them in war time. Death begins at thirty, that is, deterioration of the muscle cells sets in. Attention to diet and exercise would enable men and women to live a great deal longer than they do today. The best part of a woman's life begins at forty."
Well, let's hope so Smile Was too dazed in the 20s, too confused in the 30s, let's see what the 40s bring.

Well, let's hope so :)Was too dazed in the 20s, too confused in the 30s, let's see what the 40s bring.
Check out these "Dazed and Confused" quotes then. Happy Birthday

The movie "Dazed and Confused" revolves around one day, which is the last day of school. High school juniors are rejoicing they will be seniors, and incoming freshman are getting hazed. The 1993 comedy is set in the 1970's and revolves are many groups of friends, who all end up at the same big blow out party.

  1. "That's what I love about these high school girls, man. I get older and they stay the same age." by David Wooderson . One of the best, and most memorable "Dazed and Confused" quotes is this one by David, who is played by Matthew McConaughey . David says this quote while outside a pool hall. He is leaning up against the wall, and watching the hot high school girls walk past. He has been out of high school for a while, and delivers the quote in a smooth yet creepy manner.

  2. "I did it when I was a freshman, and you'll do it when you're seniors. but you're doing great. Now fry like bacon, you little freshman piggies . Fry!" by Simone. This "Dazed and Confused" quote was said during the female freshman hazing scene. In the movie all the cool incoming freshman girls are hazed in the high school parking lot. The seniors to-be have the incoming freshman lay on the cement while condiments are poured on them. Simone says the first part of the quote in a nice, sweet voice and then quickly changes to a mean authoritative voice when telling them to fry like bacon.

  3. "Hear that, he was 'getting there'. Son, you wouldn't even know what to do if you got there." by Tommy Houston. During the movie Tommy pulled John away from a girl he was making out with at a school dance. Tommy said this "Dazed and Confused" quote after John said he was getting somewhere with the girl sexually. It is a funny quote because Tommy had no care about John scoring with a girl, and is so sure he will wind up no where with her.

  4. "You ought to ditch the two geeks you're in the car with now and get in with us. But that's alright, we'll worry about that later. I will see you there. All right?" by David Wooderson . David says this quote to the shy, but cute senior to-be Cynthia Dunn. She is the redhead who is good friends with the two nerds Tony and Mike. While Cynthia is in the car with Tony and Mike, David spots her and immediately thinks she is hot because he loves redheads. The way David says this "Dazed and Confused" quote is in his sly, yet calm manner which makes it funny.

  5. "Now, see, what's fascinating is the way, not only the school, but the entire community, seems to be supporting this or, at least, turn their heads. I mean, they apparently have permission to use the parking lot. No parents seem to mind, you know. They're selling concessions. You, know." by Mike Newhouse . During the incoming freshman hazing scene in "Dazed and Confused" Mike says this quote. He is astounded at how the school turns a blind eye and lets the hazing take place on school property. The hazing is nothing hardcore, but the senior girls are verbally abusing the incoming freshman. Mike delivers the quote in a sarcastic manner, and it is great to hear him say what the audience is probably thinking.

bittu sir,

using an apostrophe s to indicate plural form, to avoid confusion, is quite acceptable. say i have several screen shots of our chat. i might write, "i have several ss's of our chat." or, "i have several sses of our chat."

Kris avoid herd mentality. It's MBAs, not MBA's.

Huzefa:

If you wrote "I have several ss's of our chat" nobody knows wtf ss's means, so it would be f'n stupid to write that.

You wrote "using an apostrophe to indicate plural form is quite acceptable". Yes, if you are pluralizing something in lower case. Let's say you want to count the number of times lower case 'a' and 'i' appear in a paragraph. You'll say "Let us count the a's and i's in this paragraph". Forget about it being acceptable, there is no other way of doing it. If you wrote "Let us count the as and is in the paragraph" it doesn't work.

In contrast, there's no way to confuse 40s. 40s is the plural of 40. 40's is something else.

"I am in my 40s and I feel good"

"40's smaller than 50"

Likewise, MBAs is the plural of MBA. If you wrote it in lower case, then mba's would have to do, but why the ef would you write that in lower case? HTH

Can't believe it takes a barely educated jat to teach english to all you IIT/IIM type lund brains.

BTW, on the 40's thing, if it is being used as a contraction of 41,42,43, 44 etc. it seems fine.

Now, what the heck is an 'oxford' comma? Even my kids talk about this, but I am not sure when or why it is used.

an apostrophe has many uses, one of which is to show the possessive case. another is to show contraction, as in couldn't for could not. it is in this sense that i use 40's. the apostrophe stands for the missing letters ie.

In your usage of 40's, neither condition applies. It's possible that your brain function is starting to degrade with age.

Yes, an apostrophe can be used to indicate plurality but not like 40's or MBA's.

Let's say there are four boys who are all playing with green marbles. You can show plurality by positioning the apostrophe like this: The boys' marbles are green.

In MBAs, the 's' is already indicating plurality. Why you gotta jam an apostrophe in there? The plural of car is cars. The plural of MBA is MBAs. What's the f'n problem?

"40s" it is.
nobody is denying that 40s is correct. i am denying 40's is incorrect. both are acceptable. you are being a stickler for usage.
In my view anything and everything is acceptable - as long people understand.

it is genetical.

max:

your explanation is unsatisfactory. apostrophes in the cases you cite (why're, can't, don't) are used primarily to denote concatenation (besides the omitting of a letter or two). what concatenation is there in forty's for forties? or fort's for forties?

In your usage of 40's, neither condition applies. It's possible that your brain function is starting to degrade with age.

Yes, an apostrophe can be used to indicate plurality but not like 40's or MBA's.

Let's say there are four boys who are all playing with green marbles. You can show plurality by positioning the apostrophe like this: The boys' marbles are green.

In MBAs, the 's' is already indicating plurality. Why you gotta jam an apostrophe in there? The plural of car is cars. The plural of MBA is MBAs. What's the f'n problem?
There are always exceptions. For example, I can say, "Since the number zero looks like the letter O, be careful when you type 0's and O's." Here, using 0s and Os without the apostrophe would be wrong. The f'n problems with apostrophe is that it could appear in the middle of f'n or at the end of fuckin'. In other words, English is one fucked up language.
