Desi Get-Together Friendship in US! Empty Desi Get-Together Friendship in US!

Quite often, I meet people in this get-together or the other, arranged by a fellow desi, attended by fellow desis.

Are we friends?

I forget names easily, but do remember faces easily.

I have reached a point, where I introduce myself as - "I do know that I have met you at least 3 times before, but I am so-n-so, what was your name again?"

What's the point of such get-togethers, or meaningless socialization?

I know its a wrong place to post this, because most of you have a Tamil Association, Telugu Association, and so on and you feel comfortable based on language alone, but I despise all such associations in US, hence attend any of them.

But bigger Q is - Is friendship in US a matter of "convenience" ? - Oh, my neighbor speaks Tamil like we do, hence we are friends?

Now that's rude. To keep going in other peope's parties 2-3-4 times and never inviting anyone in return.

why can't you utilized the option of saying 'no' and not attend any of the desi parties if you see no value in them?
