It will be funny now. If it is Rahul (I dont think so) congress will be in deepER shyt.

If it is someone else, there will be in-fighting, jealousy, and backstabbing which will put the Congress in deeper Shyt.

This will be fun to watch.

It looks like Indian voter has started using his / her head while voting (decide on the basis of issues affecting him / her, e.g. corruption etc.) instead of blindly casting vote according to caste or religion.

My guess is that Sonia will.announce mms will continue as long as he wants. After the elections numbers will dictate the game. If Congress wins, mms can be pursuaded to retire after an year or so.

I think so too.... that is the best option they have. anything else will start an internal bickering.

Yeah. Project rahul as pm is shelved for now. Congress has to do lot repair work.
Here are few things that Congress can take some comfort.
2003. Bjp swept state elections in 2003 but lost subsequent parliament election in 2004.
This may sound cruel. But a sudden demise or serious illness to Sonia may create some sympathy for rahul.
Modi could cause a self destructive issue.

My first guess is (if RG does not want it), Sonia will play the Divide and rule policy (again a ploy to divide Hindu Votes) and nominate Sushil Kumar Shinde. The idea will be to get BSP as a pre-poll alliance partner in UP. Also helps in MP and little bit in Rajasthan and sundry votes in other states. Plus it will help in Maharashtra also.

Doesn't matter, if Allegedly Shinde's performance as minister has been found wanting. Allegedly, She thinks she can put anybody there, as long she /Rahul/NAC/Other Coterie around her gets the ultimate say on policies. Allegedly, Power by proxy without accountability seems to be motto there.

Least likely option is for her to become PM candidate and aim to win elections but actually nominate somebody else after Congress wins (Rahul , Antony or Chidu).

For BSP having a Dalit PM will be used as a fig leaf to enter into a pre-poll alliance with Corruption tainted and Overtly Communal Congress party, while the real reason could be allegedly CBI (Congress Bureau of Investigations) doing the Congress party's bidding.

People are against Congress for its role in creating inflation and erosion of buying power. So BSP needs to think carefully about this. But its votebank has been pretty consistent, and while a few upwardly mobile and a few SC's in urban areas will go for anti-incumbency & pro-development, and will vote for Modi led BJP against Congress, the bulk of rural area SC's could stay with BSP.

Also she will suddenly promise special status to Bihar and JD(U) could enter into an alliance with her. Never mind that BJP had all along been promising the same, and JD(U) would not enter into a pre-poll alliance with BJP due to personal whims of Nitish.

JD(U) would not even want to wait for a formal announcement, given that there will be pressure from Ashraf Muslim leadership in Bihar, though I very much doubt whether Pasmananda Muslims who are generally pro-development, will be as much antagonistic to Modi led BJP, as it is being made out to be. JD(U) could be making a mistake and is equating the position of Sunni Ashrafs in UP with Pasmanandas in Bihar.

Though if that happens, Yadav's in Bihar could plump for BJP. Let us not forget that, Modi the tallest leader in India today, also happens to be from a backward class background.

bsp will not support Congress if shinde is made pm candidate. Reason: mayawati does not want another sc leader becoming national leader.
Remember modi vs nitish kumar. It is their personal ambition and their backward class background that makes them mutually exclusive. Nitish also has the Muslim factor to support his claim to leadership.

It doesn't matter who their PM candidate is. Congress is on its way out. MT most likely will bring a scapegoat to blame him/her after the election. AAP is going to contest elections in 2014 and they will have an impact. AP MPs (including CONmen) have announced that they are moving a no-confidence motion in Lok Sabha. The High-Command will not be high and mighty any more. As I wrote in the past, I won't be surprised if Marie Antoinette and Chauchesku are someday hanged in front of the parliament. A strong message needs to be sent to eradicate corruption.

CONs are bound to lose. Their vote banks are moving away from them. In Rajasthan, the vote bank heavily tilted towards BJP!!! In Delhi, they voted for AAP. Sonia-nomics (the give aways) are rejected in Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan. CONmen can't completely change their ways. re-tool and project themselves as MK Gandhis. That opportunity is no longer available. AAP has taken it away. The Digvijayas, Laloos and Mulayams will become history as their style of politics won't yield votes in future. Mulayam's Muslims will vote for AAP. Laloo's Yadavs and Muslims will vote for AAP and perhaps JDU. CON's Muslims and SC/ST will move away from them. If Digvijaya cuts jokes on AAP, people will beat him up. The political arena is changing.

vakavaka, this continued delay in naming the PM candidate by sonia means that she does not have another manmohan singh lined up. now that she is in "deep introspection," she will turn ultra conservative. she will either hide in the italian embassy as she did after indira gandhi's assassination or anoint her son as PM candidate regardless of the consequences. jo hoga dekha jayga attitude.
