A popular Romanian musician, Teo Peter, was killed in a traffic accident in Bucharest at 4:30am on December 4, 2004 when a 31-year-old U.S. Marine embassy guard, Sgt. Christopher Van Goethem, drove his Ford SUV through a red light and into a taxi carrying Peter. Van Goethem was drunk. He was given a breathalyzer test at the scene which confirmed his drunken state, but since he was serving as a guard at the embassy, he enjoyed diplomatic immunity and so he left the scene. The Romanian government requested that the U.S. government lift his immunity, while they prepared to file charges, but the U.S. refused to drop his immunity and spirited him out of Romania on a flight for Germany.

there is a saying, rishi. 'jiski laathi uski bhains'. meaning the one with the stick owns the buffalo. (in case of contention the one with power owns the thing)

Offcourse Americans are. No country other than USA in post WWII era, could get away after blatently carpet bombing Iraq, killing millions of innocent civilians before Iraq war. What differentiates US and Hitler germany is democratic framework of USA which shows human nature every now and then.
