Love Cate Blanchett Empty Re: Love Cate Blanchett

Hello Tracy!

Hope you are doing well.

Not too long ago, during one of those long tedious flights, as many can relate, decided to watch a movie..the name Jasmine, a name I really like caught my eye. Knowing nothing about the movie, story or cast decided to watch it. As the opening credits began to roll..was surprised it was a Woody Allen movie. Am not a WA fan..however, find the characters he creates sometimes intriguing. He offers a lot of freedom to actors to make his characters their own and OWN she did..Cate Blanchett - as Jasmine!

Within a few mins, her beautiful presence and riveting performance filled with contradictions..a wealthy woman who becomes homeless..heartbreaking- yet, extraordinarily funny.. so flawed- yet, so fascinating, dignified-yet utterly helpless was so engrossing and brilliant..it is one of those rare movies, where a woman in a leading role carries the entire movie and makes everything else invisible.
Later realized some of the similarities of Blanche Dubois' the character Tennessee Williams' classic movie "A Street Car named Desire"..but, without Brando it's ALL Cate-Jasmine here!

From the beginning you know this story can't have a happy or a sad ending for that matter..it's about mental trauma which deeply affects fragile minds and leaves big scars..makes it really about everyday "survival" and coping one day at a time. Whether she is nominated and wins the big "O"ne or not (!), for me..this one will linger on with a mystic fragrance..

Hi Maria. Long time. I am good, trust you are doing good too.

Good review of Blanchett and the movie. Will add how her smile is her best feature that captures the whole screen.

I loved her outfits in the movie! The Chanel coat, Hermes bag, Michael Kors pants, Fendi dresses, Piazza shirts! Adorable!

Oscars:

It was great to see Cate Blanchett be nominated and win the best actress Oscar for Blue Jasmine (as I had mentioned above in Jan- winning is better!)  I knew nothing about the movie or really about her, when I first watched it, she was quite extraordinary. Always nice to see the few, good women-lead movies do well at the box office and receive recognition.

Did not see any of the movies- nominated in major categories or performances..no comments.

Beyond that, gowns and glamour, the pomp and plastic surgery appearances- there was nothing really new..
*liked  the always delightful Jennifer Lawrence in the bright red gown, that’s about it.

The show itself was too long and tedious. Ellen is funny at times, but to me she seemed too silly, mean-spirited and unprepared for the most part..could be my expectations of women..when they have those rare opportunities to host- and a billion people are watching..try to elevate themselves and be more graceful and classy.

In any case, since it's all subjective (the awards and reviews).. looks like Ellen ordering the pizza and asking for money..collecting $ bills from the big star audience was casual and cute to others..not to mention the selfie, to me it was tacky and annoying, but.. we live in "self-selfie" times..and a lot of people apparently love taking and sharing them.  And that’s the way it is!

yeah, glad she won the award. She spoke well too.

I think that's Ellen's brand of humor, to purposefully and confidently make mistakes and pass it off as no-big-deal. Also, so many things could have gone wrong with passing around the pizza to stars on live television but I think it was executed well, atleast the parts they showed on tv.

For someone who is as star struck as I am, I liked the casual interative format in which you get to see the stars doing a bit more than just being... stars. Brings their humorous and fun side out.

That selfie is epic. It's eventually all about hitting the pulse of the majority of the audience, and that was achieved. Being a mom of a teen, I have been pushed into many sorts of selfie sitchies, and I think it does bring up the fun factor once you all get together and group up to become part of one big pic.

>>>Has quite a bit of range too. If you haven't seen Elizabeth, would recommend it. Shekhar Kapur directed it.

Sure, am certainly in a very small minority...most people famous or not, enjoy taking a lot of selfies..have a lot of fun.

Even Pres. Obama and PM Cameron could not resist posing for selfies with the Danish PM Thorning-Schimdt at Mandela's funeral services. It's trendy and cool.

It's not a big deal.
