Six candidates from Tamil Nadu declared elected to Rajya Sabha
CHENNAI: All six candidates from Tamil Nadu have been declared elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha. Though only six were left in the fray after two independent candidates' nomination were rejected, a formation communication electing the six was released by the Election Commission on Friday.
The six elected candidates are: Sasikala Pushpa, K Selvaraj, S Muthukaruppan and Vijila Sathyanath (all AIADMK), T K Rangarajan ( CPM) and Tirchy Siva (DMK). The six will take charge on April 2.
The vacancies were created by the retirement of G K Vasan and Jayanthi Natarajan (Congress), N Balaganga (AIADMK), A A Jinnah and Vasanthi Stanley (DMK) and T K Rangarajan (CPM). Of the retiring members, only Rangarajan has been reelected. Siva is a former member of the upper house but retired in July 2013.
The Congress has been the loser with the party not in a position to reelect any of its retiring members as it has only five members in the assembly.
The DMK, with 23 members, has managed to elect Siva as there was no contest, with the DMDK not participating. Each candidate needed 34 votes to be elected.
After two consecutive years of elections to the Rajya Sabha, Tamil Nadu will have a break for a year and the next election will be held in only in 2016 when six members elected in 2011 will retire.

Looks like this route is easier than even that of the Dynasty's. Just to get elected to Lok Sabha, Rahul has to walk on dusty roads in Amethi, eat food in huts and promise to send Dalits and Muslims to Moon.
