One thing to remember is that Modi is around 62 while Rahul is only 42. Age is on Rahul's side.

You are correct about age being on Rahul's side.

He has plenty of time to sharpen his political and administrative skills. He may very well be the PM 10 years from now.

Nope. No Congress government was formed without the support of AP voters and Congress cannot hope to win in AP for the next 20-30 years. They shot themselves in the foot. Rahul will never be the PM in his life.

What does rahul's political and administrative skills have to do with him being elected to PM?

Indian people have not yet displayed the desire to elect leaders with any specific leadership skills. Rahul could easily get elected in two years if bjp fails to hold its govt alliance (assuming they win in 2014). Will congress remain a domain of single family if it loses 2014 election? Will the family be able to retain leadership if it is out of power for a decade or more? Congressmen are wily foxes who know how to protect their self interests. We have to wait and see.
