I should really start an ashram... I say many of the things that these kurals say - except without having read that and based on common sense...

Never eat without feeling hungry

never go for seconds

never eat meat at night

avoid anything that looks white

dont buy ice cream, donut, etc...go out and eat if you must

if you want to eat something inside home - then you will have to cook. Only veggies, nuts, fruits should be available as snacks.

If you dont feel hungry at lunch - skip it, not hungry at dinner - skip it. The world will not end.

These are my standard sermons.

P.S. these dont apply to me - though.

those are rules of thumb. meant for the not-so-educated...instead of a long list it keeps it simple without having to memorize everything. white bread, white potatoes, white rice, white sugar, white flour...you get the picture.

yoghurt, milk, cheese fall under dairy category - although white in color.

yes...one is less active with age and the body slows down, and the amount of food should also be reduced with aging to match the decreased energy needed for the body.

It is quite common for people to say "I have been eating the same food same quantity for years, but somehow my weight is going up" Exactly.

If you are not doing what you did 5 years ago why should you eat what you ate 5 years ago ? Remember, the orthodox oldies in those days ate once a day and did not eat after 3 PM (atleast not after sun down). now think.

A good friend died this week. He lost all appetite and had stopped eating anything for few months. His family had tough time making him eat. Happened the same with my father.

Funny, humans crave for food and are slave of taste, only to give up everything in their last days/months.

If one has no appeitite, then there is a SERIOUS issue in the GI system - rather the liver enzymes.

Eating less does not mean not having an appetite. you should feel hungry and should feel like eating like a pig but should eat in a controlled fashion. many people cant distinguish the difference but can be deciphered easily.
