Woman must be free to choose career, marriage: Narendra Modi
NEW DELHI: BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on Saturday said discrimination was a big problem faced by women and called for them to have freedom to make choices about their career and marriage.
Interacting with women from different parts of the country through video conferencing at "chai pe charcha (discussion on tea)" at the Bharatiya Janata Party office, Modi said that there should be more women in legal profession as well as in police.
"One of the big problems is discrimination. There is one attitude towards the son and another towards the daughter. To end this discrimination, there is need of social awareness," he said.
Modi said there should be "no compromise attitude" on issues concerning women.
"(They) should have freedom of birth, freedom of education...freedom to choose time of marriage, freedom to choose career. They should have a say in deciding the size of family," he said.
BJP leaders said that women from several locations in the country were taking part in the second round of "chai pe charcha" with Modi. The event was organised on International Women's Day.

The "chai pe charcha" programme is an effort by BJP to woo voters ahead of Lok Sabha elections, in context of Modi's references to his humble origins as "tea seller" and the attacks by some opposition parties on him on this issue.

Agree...that is why he dumped his wife soon after marriage and she chose to become a teacher. Rahul sacrificed a married life to put a stop to the dynastic politics.
Kejriwal wants to eradicate corruption but would prefer to stay in the flat allocated to him as CM of Delhi.
This is India with its great leaders - What a country....

Don't forget he is calling for this change in India, where the Govt. has officially allowed and encouraged the use of community and religion based gender-specific (biased) laws for the past six decades.

People and politicians have been calling for changes for 65 years, but where is the action....heck even I am calling for changes but the ones who can change on the ground are the ones in power.
Modi is better than UPA and Rahul Shehzad but certainly has many negative traits. I like Chouhan of MP better. Hardly hear him trumpet his work in MP or claiming achievements.

>>Didn't Indira Gandhi dump her husband Feroze Khan?
Dumping is not an issue. If Indian women are well educated, economically independent and brought up to not give a hoot about what others think, they would also dump their husbands with no qualms.
