Talking about burning Empty Talking about burning

I have a distant relative who is not only intelligent and social but also a go-getter. When she was in college, she stayed in the hostel. She had a lover.  Since she was staying far away from her parents, she was roaming around the city with her beau. They were every where in and out of the city. Parks, beaches and movie theaters, you name it. They were there.

One day, someone who knew her parents told them. Then the girl decided to elope with her lover. He was the son of a politician. He had a network of friends who could secretly smuggle them to a faraway place and get them married.

Her brother got the wind of it. He went to the place where his sister was staying and gave her a big slap.

In a couple of months, the girl was married off to a sucker, an unsuspecting TN brahmin who was based in a different state. Guess whom she invited to her marriage? Her ex-lover. It seems he was seen teary eyed (or tears of joy?).  He was sitting very close to the mandapa. May be the smoke from the vedic fire irritated his eyes. Who knows? But some people say he started crying because he was losing her to someone else.

For some strange reason, the husband decided to relocate to Chennai. He got a good job there.
The old habits die hard. His wife was back in her neighborhood now. She became bolder and more social than before. She was seen being friendly with other men especially when she went to her neighborhood stores and lending library.  Even with a couple of kids, her flirting behavior did not cease to exist.

And then somehow the husband came to know about her past. He started beating her in front of the kids. One day, she ran out. He started chasing her. The passers by were somewhat bemused. He shouted at them "stop that bitch!"

Then one day, she took to the bathroom a can of keresone and a match box. Her children saw what she was doing. She locked herself inside. The kids started banging the door "அம்மா அம்மா கதவ தேற." (Amma Amma open the door).

She came out. Packed her bags. Went to her parent's house. Of course with her kids.

The marriage ended in divorce.

A lot of things happened after that. The man became insane. I heard he died a few years ago.

>>>No, no, no. Where is the denouement? Too many loose ends. Remember your audience has been shaped by Bollywood flicks and later by American sitcoms Smile. This story is too much like an art flick where we have to imagine the gaps.  If the first guy showed up at her wedding, maybe there was nothing serious about that relationship. When she came back to town, if she had taken it to the next level with Guy#1, that would have added some oomph. Instead she is just doing some harmless flirting. The husband's death is left unexplored. Was it because of shame? Was it his wife's past that he ruminated over till he gave up the ghost? Or was it just old age?

(My 2 cents/feedback on your narrative writing. Take it for what it is worth)
