Coalition Governments are better for development Empty Coalition Governments are better for development

"The Indian polity has been through 43 coalition governments at the state level between 1966/67 and 1998/99. In the present study we attempt to examine what this change in form of government from single party to coalitions has meant for the economy. The results of our study which examines the post 1980 period give us reason to be optimistic. Coalitions at the state government level appear to have, on an average, done well to increase capital expenditures particularly capital expenditures on social services and other developmental categories. They have, however, not succeeded in taking politically hard decisions of curbing revenue expenditures and revenue deficits. It is our contention that the weak majority of coalition governments is their major strength. The tenuous hold of coalitions on power gives them a license for undertaking reforms. If the opportunity is taken to undertake the more ‘politically difficult’ reforms to prune revenue expenditures then the ‘era of coalitions’ would turn out to be a blessing in disguise for the Indian economy."

stop whining.... accept the defeat. that is how it is. it is all one-party show.

UPA has proved that coalition governments are not at all efficient and worse breeds rampant corruption.

Check back in 25 years.

some of the excuses heard from ysrcp camp:

we only lost by a small percentage
modi wave

but this takes the cake - "coalitions govts are better for development"

Then why did not he raise that question with YSR in 2009?

Brilliant retort! Unfortunately the tendency is that,  the Congress  supporters or supporters of other (non performing parties)  never seem to contribute anything tangible to the debate.  All I see is one track mind. Divert attention.

Ok somebody has won majority. Now focus on what he can do to improve India, in whatever position he or she is at. Contribute or critique that. Such an approach would be constructive.

I also see that  Congress Politicians are the same. Whether it is Mani Shankar OR Sonia.
The idiotic Adulterous Digvijay Singh was still doing the same in NDTV. Secular/ Communal words to divert attention is done!  Nobody is going to fall for this anymore, as a method to divert attention from total incompetence.

Raw

People appreciate honesty.  If the losers admit the loss this time around and work to win next time, they will stay in the game.

I have not seen any congress or secular introspection.

What honesty or introspection? If anything loose cannons like Modi need to be on a leash what else is better suited for that than a coalition.

Why introspection?  Because people rejected them and dumped them in a dustbin.

Congress should see how it screwed up.  Zero seats for assembly and lok sabha in Seemandhra. Not much better in T area.  All the leaders must die of shame and never show their faces outside their homes.

Secularists should be ashamed of their lies and distortions.
