this is an idiotic article. For instance it says:
But one thing the Indian electorate has done decisively now is to reject those whose politics have rested on the divisive and ugly identity-claims that underlie that sort of violence. India has rejected both pseudo-secularism, and jingoistic Hindu extremism. It has accepted a plank of good governance for all, which for young Hindus could also mean a repudiation of brazen, racist Hinduphobia, and for others might prove a reassurance eventually that India's secular constitution will not be threatened, and may even be strengthened by recognizing the civilizational roots on which that country's many religions rest.
This election was not really about choosing between secularism and religious extremism as it was made out to be. The choice was perhaps seen by people in India more accurately as one between Hinduphobia and an India for everyone.
And India has chosen.
---
the problem here is that only 21% of the total electorate, and 31% of those who voted did so in favor of the BJP. In other words, the majority of Indians decisively made it clear that they are not Modi supporters. It is because of flaws in the Indian electoral system that the BJP won a handsome majority despite getting a clear minority of votes in favor of it.

The Economist once described a holy Hindu deity, the Shiva Lingam at Amarnath, as a "penis-shaped lump of ice."
The Guardian once lampooned the passing of a revered Hindu guru, who probably did more to uphold India's secular, multi-religious fabric than any intellectual or activist ever did, and derided his teachings as simplistic "peace, love and vegetarianism."
--> the above might upset a practicing hindu, but consider the fact that a shiva linga is quite literally representing the lingam penetrating the yoni. the reason for this way of representation is that cosmic creation was thought to be in some way analogous to human reproduction. to say that the shiva linga represents fire (agni) as Seva has argued makes a lot less sense than to think of the shiva linga as simply representing the penis which is what some others like Merlot have argued in the past.
--> the revered guru being mentioned in the article is Sathya Sai Baba. besides the talk of 'peace, love, and vegetarianism' message i am not aware of any other great philosophical teaching of this guru. in fact many hindus consider Sathya Sai Baba to be a fraud and a charlatan. i have spoken with learned hindus who have criticized sathya sai baba's method of showing 'miracles' (like producing shiva linga from his mouth) on the ground that even assuming he had had such powers it was improper on his part to display such powers to the public so as to get popularity and funding.

(fake) Secularism by appeasement and paying "protection" favors
has been replaced with
(real) Secularism by equality and respect for all religions.

is that why Modi says no to wearing the muslim skull cap but happily wears the sikh turban and various types of headgears including tribal headgear?

Hahaha.
Bad news for Rashmun. Looks like another poster crossed over to modi side.
You need to redouble your efforts, Rashmun. Now that you have an assistant (
