India - pakistan tussle
Has the best chance to reach a "liveable" solution under Modi. Modi - being considered a Hindu fundamentalist and a RSS man - can boldly broker a deal without being accused of betraying India/Hindus. Sonia or Madam Mohan Singh can never do that as non-hindus they had/will have to constant worry about the interpretation by the hindus.
South African racism was broken by an avowed racist F. W DeClerlk
Polish communism broken by the military commie Jaruzelski
Soviet break down was initiated by a KGB Chief Andropov..
vajpayee did try just that. But, the weak Sharif and paki military got greedy and stupid and ruined everything.
Now also, a similar backstabbing may be attempted by Paki military. But, unlike Vajpayee, Modi will have a totally different political strength and a post independence outlook on pakistan. So there is potentially the greatest opportunity and also equally a great potential for a great war.

translation: we will accuse you of selling out if you make nice with the neighbor, but if we do the same that's ok because we do so with the authority that comes from wearing the right uniform, the chuddy.

So you did not see my other examples...and the political psychology behind those actions.
Of course not...

Also, if we in power do the exact opposite of what we told you we will do when asking for votes, that is because we are statesmen. If the other party does the opposite of what it promises, they are cheating the people.MaxEntropy_Man wrote:translation: we will accuse you of selling out if you make nice with the neighbor, but if we do the same that's ok because we do so with the authority that comes from wearing the right uniform, the chuddy.

that is right. that is why nixon's China initiative is often quoted. it sounds unfair but that is what happens in life. common men are more comfortable with republican making deals with socialists than dems.

Fair enough. As long as Modi doesn't end up doing what Vajpayee and Jaswant did with Masood Azhar, we should still come out ahead.

You just have to wait and see what happens. Even CONmen have been rather quiet on this (smart on their part).Idéfix wrote:Fair enough. As long as Modi doesn't end up doing what Vajpayee and Jaswant did with Masood Azhar, we should still come out ahead.
Here are two interesting pictures:

I see some comparisons of Nixon's China initiative, Vajpayee's bus thingie, etc. But I think the it's much simpler than all those grand plans.
You see, slightly before, and immediately after, the Pakistani ambassodor has been lifting his tail (Telugu - toka ettutunnaadu - meaning, acting big) giving big statesman-like statements in the press about pushing for peace, "meaningful dialogue" on Kashmir etc. Now this invitation totally confused him, Shariff, generals, and everybody else. It's innocuous on the surface, but loaded underneath. If he doesn't come, it proves all that talk about peace was empty talk. If he comes, his ass will be fried by those fundamentalists (girls-shooting Pakistani Taliban, blow-up artistes Al Queda, throat-slitters in Karachi, Kashmir terrorists, and other not so nice group whom no Pakistani politician dare cross). Thus the invitation is just calling his bluff.
